Interview with author Cristiane Serruya

Hello, darlings! How are you today? I hope you are all doing as good as I am :)

Today we are here with author Cristiane Serruya, author of the Trust Trilogy. The first two books inthe series have been published last year, Trust : A new beginning and this year, Trust : Betrayed

Now let's start!

Hello dear Cristiane! I am glad to have you here today and I think I am speaking for everyone who's going to read this that we are all super excited about the Trust Trilogy.

Hello, Andreea. I want to thank for the opportunity of talking about my books and myself. I’m so happy to be hosted in your amazing blog.

1) For the beginning, tell us something about you.

Well, I live in Rio de Janeiro, with my husband and my two amazing teenage daughters. I majored in Fine Arts and Law, and have a Master in Business Law. I’m also specialized in cases of sexual abuse and violence against children and women, and have been working as a lawyer for the past 22 years. After that, I decided to put some ideas on the paper, and this was how TRUST was born. Writing has always been an entertainment to me, and now it’s becoming more serious and I’m loving it. It is just the piece that was missing in my life.

2) What is your favorite movie(s)?

Titanic. What an amazing romantic story, isn’t it? It certainly made history! I remember I was pregnant of my first daughter when I saw it and I started crying when the min song played. LOL!

3) What about your favorite book(s)?

Do I really have to answer this questions? LOL! I’m such an avid reader. Reading is the most pleasure hobby I have, so is very difficult for me to chose my favorite books. I think my favorite kind of reading depends of the moment. I love read romantic, historical, paranormal, erotic stories, Old Greeks, all the classics... It’s kind of hard to choose my favorite book, but if there is one I'm in love with right now it’s Trust: Betrayed, the sequel of Trust: A New beginning.

4) Now let's talk a little about your book. How did you come up with the idea?

It all started in a very silly way. In April 2009, I was bed-ridden, sick - and veeeeery bored. I had a such bad headache that I could even read (OMG!) or open the curtains. So… I decided to tell myself a story. The seed was planted. But it took me more than a year to gather the courage to put some ideas on paper and daily life kept intruding in the way. The story grew and took shape. As I was very unsatisfied with the Brazilian justice system and that was affecting my own work as a lawyer. One day, I decided to start writing. A friend of mine said I had such good stories to tell that I should write a book and that I would make many more people aware of the still brutal violence that was practiced against women and children (one of the main issues that I work with, and the subject of my university thesis). The next day, I started the trilogy. But, do you want to laugh? When I told my daughter , I was writing my book, after a minute of opened o=mouth, she asked: 'Mommy, who is going to read your book?' So much for family support...

Real life is what inspires me to write. Look around you, listen to your family’s stories, your neighbors’ daily lives, read the newspapers. There are so many stories waiting to be told and not enough time to write about them. I don’t want to give away to much, but one of the subjects treated in my book, especially the relationships between Ethan, Alistair and Sophia, is being talked about by everyone and it's very similar to my Law School thesis.

5) Who is your favorite character and why?

Sophia, for sure! She is a 25 year old brazilian widow that flees from her own country after a tragic accident. She was already a billionaire, beautiful, a successful lawyer. She had everything, but decided to start all over again - of course, money helped and a very good friend too!
What a strong woman! She has suffered so much, but is still able to be a great human being and an amazing mother. I wish I could be more like her. I write because I’m too shy to speak out loud about so many things that enchant or disgust me, like she does. I love strong heroines! And also alpha males - LOL! - and Sophia has one of those.

6) Can you describe the feeling when you saw your published book for the first time?

It was almost like my first baby was born, but - LOL! - I was so much more nervous. I think that happened because, as I said, everything started as a hobby and I did not think, in the beginning, that my story would be published. I kept writing to spend time with myself, doing something I love, and now I work more that 12 hours a day.

7) What other books (if any) are you working on and when will they be published?

After publishing Trust: Betrayed in late April, I just published a short story called “The Modern Man - A philosophical divagation about the evil banality of daily acts”. I’ve written this when I was in Law School, in 1988, but I thought I should share it with everyone. It’s just something to think about what we are doing with our everyday lives. It’s a bilingual book: English-Portuguese. This way I can promote my work here in Brazil too.
I’m also working on the third installment of TRUST trilogy, called TRUST: PANDORA’S BOX, that will be ready in the end of November. No more information because I don’t want to spoil the surprise. *grin*

8) What would you like to tell to your Romanian fans?

Mmm.. I have such a romantic notion about Romania… And I'm in love with my Romanians' fans! You are gentle and kind. I hope I can visit you someday. I’m sure we’re going to have such a good time!

I also would like to say that they may never give up on love specially... loving me - LOL! Just kidding! Now seriously, never give up on love! A little bit tacky, isn’t it? :) But that’s the truth. We should love everything we do, so life can be much more pleasurable. Of course, there would be obstacles in the way, but think that they exist just to make life even more tasty.

I want to thank for the interesting interview. I really hope people who haven’t read the TRUST TRILOGY, to do it and enjoy reading it as much as I’ve enjoyed writing it.
I love to hear from readers and I'm always posting blogs on my website, along with news about Sophia, Ethan And Alistair. So, please, het in touch with me! :)
